The goal of the competition was to find the best best answers to the question

“Why should I get sponsorship for eScience 2015?”

The competition had three categories, with winners receiving a free registration for the conference:

  1. Best new eScience service or project (or idea for one)
  2. Best eScience innovation using eScience tools outside research
  3. Popular vote

The competition was open from from 30th of June until 31st July 8th August 2015. See the entries received.

(Historical) – How to participate:

Option 1 (for categories 1 & 2): follow @escience on Twitter and tweet a link to your presentation to @escience with a hashtag #escience2015. The presentation should either be a slide deck (pdf or Powerpoint) with a maximum of 10 slides, or (roughly) two page document in HTML/pdf format. The presentation must include an email address and a phone number of the participant

Option 2 (for all categories): “like” escience on Facebook and post your answer (or link to it, format as above) to the page.

Selecting the winner

All received entries will be published on the eScience website as they arrive (latest by 14.00 CEST on 9th of August) and winners will be announced by 14.00 CEST on the 12th August 2015.

In categories 1 & 2 the winners will be determined by the jury consisting of members of the programme committee and other experts. The category 3 will be decided by the number of “likes” the post/comment received by 12.00 CEST on 11th August 2015.

The winner will get free access to the whole 5-day IEEE eScience conference, workshops and social events. Two runner ups in both categories will get honorary mentions + special eScience price (to be announced later).

Small print:

The competition is open for anyone actively pursuing Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D degrees (or equivalent).

We will reject clearly NSFW entries, if you think your entry has been erroneously omitted from this page, please contact us at and send a message on Facebook.

If we can’t contact the winner by 21st August, the winner is
considered to have forfeited his/her price and it will be offered to the first runner up.

If the winner has already registered, the price can be turned into an invitation to another person.
